On a happy and dreamlike note, the Maryland MC wrapped up a breakthrough year.
One of the hip-most hop’s promising new artists ended 2022 with a bang after a fantastic breakout year. Redveil recently released “2daside,” a synth-heavy, upbeat celebration track. Additionally, it’s an innovative, young, and soulful take on East Coast and traps hip-hop that combines contemplation with raw intensity. Fans of his third album, learn 2 swims, where he developed that style, one of this year’s greatest, will also enjoy it.
“2daside” makes use of some of the 18-year-old MC’s most interesting production methods musically. Crisp and precise trap percussion, breezy synth melodies with a range of timbres and textures, and a largely submerged feel.
In the same way as his best songs, like “pg baby,” function, it is also loaded with nostalgia, originality, and soulful fun. While in his back catalogue that nostalgia sometimes comes across as mournful, this new song has an oddly sunny tone.
The native of Prince George’s County, Maryland, gives a brief but moving performance in the meanwhile. Even though the song is only two and a half minutes long, redveil’s enthusiasm is contagious.
Lyrically, he seems to emphasize his ability and sincerity as a rapper, declaring that all that matters to him is the love that people have for him. He delivered some of the best content of the year as he continued to demonstrate insight and maturity above his years (and, honestly, that of most people).
